Broome - Sunset Camel Rides

We are back in the Kimberley and have finally made it to Broome. Our first activity was to go on a camel ride at sunset. This was lovely, however, when doing the ride you also share the experience with about 200 cars parked on the beach.

On our camel ready to go. Prue and Mitch on Rodney.
Chris and Ethan on Tiny.

Mitch loved the camels.

Ethan was equally impressed.

Barn Hill Station Stay

Barn Hill is a working Station which also allows camping. The unique coastline offeres a variety of activites. The kids loved swimming, cave exploring, investigating the rock pools and being dragged to see another sunset.

Hunting for crabs.

Found one!!

Chris thinks part of this rock formation looks like a piate ship.
Can you see it?

Eighty Mile Beach

We are unsure if Eighty Mile Beach is anmed this due to the length of the beach or because of how far the tide goes out. A lovely beach regardless. The only thing to do here is fish. On the incoming high tide the caravan park empties and heads off to the beach to catch King Salmon. Yum. However, there a many more fisherman compared King Salmon. We only saw one or two come in each day. Many of the more permanent and older residents are more than happy to catch shark and eat it. Mitch observed many of these being filleted at the fishing table. We let our shark go.

The boys met a family from Emerald (who know Lyn Makkai) who tried to teach them whip cracking.

We also watch the beautiful sunsets...

Karijini National Park - Knox Gorge

Knox Gorge was the last of our walks. The most challenging part of the walk was the descent down intot the gorge.

View down into gorge.

Descent down.

Climbing back up. The slog.

Karijini National Park - Joffre Gorge

Joffre Gorge provided us with challenges again. It wasn't as good as Weano or Hancock but still fun.

Karijini National Park - Kalamina Gorge

Kalamina Gorge was not as challenging as the other gorges, but was still pretty. We still found ways to add a Class 5 element to our walk; the boys decided to climb up to Rock Arch at the end of our walk.

Karijini National Park - Oxer Lookout

Oxer Lookout is the point where Weano, Hancock, Red and Joffre Gorges meet.

Chris with Red Gorge in the background.

Karijini National Park - Hancock Gorge

After completing Weano Gorge we were all looking forward to Hancock Gorge. Hancock Gorge did not disappoint. It was more challenging, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We now appreciate Class 5 walks and Karijini is one of favourite places on our trip.

Steps down into the gorge.

Ladder to help.

The pool we had to cross. it was freezing.

The ledge we walked climbed so we did not
have to walk waist deep in the freezing water.
