Karijini National Park - Knox Gorge

Knox Gorge was the last of our walks. The most challenging part of the walk was the descent down intot the gorge.

Descent down.

Climbing back up. The slog.

Karijini National Park - Joffre Gorge

Joffre Gorge provided us with challenges again. It wasn't as good as Weano or Hancock but still fun.

Karijini National Park - Kalamina Gorge

Kalamina Gorge was not as challenging as the other gorges, but was still pretty. We still found ways to add a Class 5 element to our walk; the boys decided to climb up to Rock Arch at the end of our walk.

Karijini National Park - Oxer Lookout

Oxer Lookout is the point where Weano, Hancock, Red and Joffre Gorges meet.

Karijini National Park - Hancock Gorge

After completing Weano Gorge we were all looking forward to Hancock Gorge. Hancock Gorge did not disappoint. It was more challenging, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We now appreciate Class 5 walks and Karijini is one of favourite places on our trip.

Steps down into the gorge.

Ladder to help.

The pool we had to cross. it was freezing.

The ledge we walked climbed so we did not
have to walk waist deep in the freezing water.

Karijni National Park - Weano Gorge

Weano Gorge was spectacular and well worth the return to Karijini. The reward of doing the walk was going to Handrail Pool. But firsy we had other obstacles to over come.

Walking down path.

Walking along ledge to avoid water.

A pool along the way.

Cross through the water.

We had climb around this outcropping.

Narrow path to Handrail Pool.

Continuing along the path.

Karijini National Park - Hamersley Gorge

We took the Rio Tinto road to Karijini. The road is parallel to the train line that transports iron ore to Karratha. the trains here are up to 3km long.

We stopped at Hamersley Gorge on the way into Karijini. The walls of the gorge were colourful and showed the geological processes of the past.

Karijini National Park - Dales Gorge

Karjini National Park is spectacular. It is so popular that is has 140 campsites. Even with this many campsites we still had to camp in the 'overflow' with about 30 other campers. Fortunately though we had were able to move down to the campground.

Dales Gorge was a fantastic walk, with many things to see on the way. Our walk started at Circular Pools.

Looking down on Circular Pool

Look hard to find Ethan and Mitch

We past some cascades on the way.

We then found some rocks (good climbing ones too)

Next we walked through a mini eucalypt forest.

Then we walked along some stepping stones (to keep our feet dry) through the gorge.

We found some rocks supporting a cliff along the way.

And then arrived at Fortescue Falls.

We had to climb up the falls to view the gorge below.

From Fortescue Falls we walked onto Fern Pool. Along he way we passed some awesome trees.

Then we arrived at Fern Pool where Ethan had a swim. Look to find him.

On the way back where took the rim walk. Here you could see down into the gorge.

Unfortunately the weather turned bad after we completed the Dales Gorge walk and we had to leave Karijini. We are hoping to return after the weather improves to walk some of the other gorges.
